In an article published in September 2007, Joe Carter writes about taking rest away from the information technology that we let control most of our day. He suggests taking a Sabbath day of rest to mentally disengage from electronic dependency: ”Ask yourself when the last time was that you went an entire day without the tools of information technology.” It’s great insight, and a nice read I’d encourage anyone to check out. But of course, take time to step away and let your computer know it’s really nothing personal.

No work
2 04 2008
There’s a funny Hallmark card with these 2 characters who for the most part try to avoid work. Hoops & Yoyo are cute and I’ve passed one or two of their cards on to a friend to make them laugh. In one of the cards, the little guy walks into the office, sits down, and then gets back up and leaves. He just couldn’t work. Poor guy. He’s just a little restless. It’s cute. I think we all get it.
For the times we can’t, I have this quotation from the book “Joy Breaks.” It’s an excerpt from “Enough is Enough” by Luci Swindoll. ”We want to be somebody else, somewhere else, doing something else, and truthfully, we will settle for almost anything…The key to contentment is to consider. Consider who you are and be satisfied with that. Consider what you have and be satisfied with that. Consider what God’s doing and be satisfied with that.”
I don’t have this down, but I like the part about not settling. Don’t settle for temporary fixes, or running away. When we hold on or hold out for something, I think it produces strength rather than weak character and a discouraged heart. Consider your options carefully. I do a little better in the day when I take a break long enough to consider the good I have, and the good I have to offer.
For fun: check out hoops & yoyo cards here and see what I mean
