Woah on Education!

Like “woah” is me…What are families to do when it comes to education?

I’ve been thinking a lot about public education lately since all the little kids are back to school now. Recalling what it was like teaching, and what I was obligated to restrain myself from sharing in terms of faith, I think about the teachers in my elementary who weren’t afraid to tell me the reason why they were happy. I remember my favorite teacher, Ms. Drew, one day sharing with her class how wonderful God had been to her. With tears in her eyes, I listened to my teacher tell me how my good friend’s mother sang a song to her – just outside her room – about God’s love. Obviously, it struck a chord with her. It struck a chord with me too. What a testimony to see your very own teacher give her testimony in front of her class, unashamed!

It’s not ironic that I made a public profession of faith that year by joining my church in baptistm. I wanted to show people that I wasn’t ashamed either! I was a smart kid. It all added up.

So with that in mind, and public education on the other hand…

I found this video while looking at an interesting education blog by Debra Bell (http://debrabell.wordpress.com/). This is the world your kids are entering…

The sad thing is, things will be dramatically different by the time MY kids enter. What culture are they walking into?

It’s a blessing to teach

(adults) haha

I’m up too late, but I’m thankful. I’m just going to share a little of what I’m getting to experience at my job…

The instructions are to write a little about yourself and turn in at the end of class. One student wrote this and it made my heart so happy I had to share. There wasn’t a lot to the letter, but it was enough to understand a little about my student and a little about me too. The student simply wrote:

“I am a Korean and Christian….I am a generous and outgoing person…I wish I can speak English very well…I will overcome my situation.”

It was enough for me. Amen, amen, and amen.

I can try to work with that. Through the grace of God, and other believers, I will overcome my situations too.
