Thinking ≠ Intelligence

I think I’ll use this on my kids when I have them some day. Thinking does not equal intelligence. Oddly enough, I came up with this after working on a self-test for an exam. My score wasn’t so hot even though I had spent time (several days, mind you) looking over my notes and thinking about the material in my head. Apparently you’re supposed to put ideas into words that you can express and evaluate when you see them on a multiple choice question…and it doesn’t help if you can memorize key words and drawings you made in class if you don’t study the meaning.

We know this phrase though. Just because I think about some ideas in class, doesn’t mean I’m going to do well on the test. My thinking about being a good cook doesn’t put all the skills in my head no matter how much time I spend watching the shows. And the thoughts we do have from time to time? Well that proves my phrase ten times over.
